Laikipia (Mutara & Ol Pejeta Conservancies)

Fly north into the highlands between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Range, where vast conservancies and rolling landscapes define Laikipia. Mutara Camp sits alone on a private 20,000-acre conservancy bordering Ol Pejeta – home to Kenya’s largest black rhino population and an impressive mix of elephants, lions, cheetahs, and plains game. With sweeping views, chic safari décor, and an infinity pool that opens to the horizon, it’s an elegant base for an immersive few days.

Day 2: Arrive at Mutara Camp and settle into your tented suite overlooking the conservancy. Enjoy lunch or a light bite before your first relaxed introduction to the wilderness on an afternoon game drive, returning to camp for a peaceful evening.

Day 3: Spend the day exploring Mutara and neighboring Ol Pejeta by open-vehicle game drive. Your guide will help you seek out a wide variety of wildlife and impressive birdlife. Between drives, enjoy the pool, your private deck, or a leisurely lunch in camp.

Day 4: Another day to dive deeper into the highland wilderness. You may focus on wildlife photography, track rhino in Ol Pejeta, or take time to simply appreciate the beauty of the landscape. Optional activities such as fishing can be arranged, with modern or traditional equipment provided.

Suggested Accommodation: Mutara Camp

Samburu & Shaba

Travel north to Samburu, where rugged escarpments, volcanic formations, and doum palm groves frame the lifeblood of the region—the Uaso Nyiro River. This dramatic landscape is home to iconic wildlife and northern Kenya’s famed “special five”: Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, gerenuk, and Somali ostrich. Soroi Samburu Lodge sits along the river with views toward a busy waterhole, offering a blend of contemporary comfort and classic safari atmosphere.

Day 5: Arrive at the lodge in time for lunch and your first afternoon game drive in Samburu or Shaba, getting acquainted with elephants, lions, and the region’s distinctive species. Return to the lodge to relax before dinner.

Day 6: Enjoy a full day of wildlife viewing, with game drives taking you along the river and into the heart of the reserve. Between excursions, return to the lodge to rest or enjoy the views from your veranda.

Day 7: Another day on safari allows you to explore different areas of the reserve or revisit favorite spots for additional sightings and photography. Evenings unfold at an easy pace, with dinner overlooking the river and the sounds of the bush surrounding you.

Suggested Accommodation: Soroi Samburu Lodge

Maasai Mara National Reserve

Fly south into the Maasai Mara, one of Africa’s most renowned wildlife regions. Here, open plains, acacia-dotted landscapes, and river ribbons support an extraordinary concentration of game. Ilkeliani Mara Camp offers a refined tented experience along the river, with spacious canvas suites featuring en-suite bathrooms, comfortable furnishings, and thoughtful modern touches.

Day 8: Arrive for lunch before setting out on an afternoon game drive. This first introduction to the Mara often reveals an abundance of wildlife – lions, elephants, buffalo, giraffe, and more.

Day 9: Morning and afternoon game drives take you across the reserve’s varied habitats, offering exceptional opportunities to watch predators and large herds of plains game. Between drives, relax in camp or enjoy a spa treatment beside the river.

Day 10: Spend another day exploring the Mara or enhance your stay with optional experiences like a sunrise hot-air balloon flight followed by a bush breakfast, or a guided visit to a Maasai village to learn about traditional culture.

Suggested Accommodation: Ilkeliani Mara Camp
