Welcome to your Greek Island Odyssey!

Spend your summer in Greece and get a high school credit at the same time! Greece is world famous for amazing beaches, incredible crystal clear sea, beach clubs, water sports, delicious food, awesome vibe, and welcoming fun culture.

Athens is the birthplace of western democracy and also a youthful vibrant modern city teeming with amazing restaurants and quaint shops lining cobblestone streets. But, Greece’s true beauty is only unveiled to those who venture to the islands. On this learning adventure, you’ll be based in three of the largest islands: Crete, Santorini and Paros!

This is the epitome of the goodlife where you will enjoy amazing Greek cuisine, carefully curated hotels in perfect central locations, and a friendly welcoming culture that will make you fall in love with the Mediterranean lifestyle! Join us in Greece this summer and get an Ontario academic credit in the process.

To ensure students can maximize their enjoyment of the Greek Islands, there will be self-directed, a-synchronous course work leading up to departure.

Itinerary

Day 1: Overnight Travel

  • Depart Toronto on an evening, overnight flight to Athens.

Day 2: Athens

  • 12:20pm arrival to Athens. Transfer to the hotel in the heart of the historic centre, drop the bags (check-in 3:00 pm) and enjoy an  introductory walk through the vibrant Plaka neighbourhood, the heart of historic Athens. Dinner at the hotel this evening.
  • Overnight central Athens.

Day 3: Athens

  • After breakfast at the hotel, class time.  In the late afternoon embark on a tour of the incredible New Acropolis Museum; this award-winning modern building is perched atop an ancient neighbourhood excavation site and the collection includes masterpieces of antiquity including the remaining Parthenon Marbles.  This guided visit will be a perfect introduction to the Acropolis Hill Site, which you will visit directly after. The 5th-century BC Acropolis is the most famous site of antiquity, and became the pinnacle of artistic creations during the Classical Era. Your guided tour will visit the magnificent Doric Parthenon, the Theatre of Dionysus, the small Ionic temple of Athena Nike and the ancient Agora – the civic, religious and commercial centre of Athenian life.  There will be free time in the lively Plaka district for shopping before dinner. Dinner included this evening.
  • Overnight Athens.

Day 4: Athens

  • Class time after breakfast.  Mid-afternoon,  board the coach for Cape Sounion, a magnificent promontory jutting out from the Attica peninsula into the ocean.  Cape Sounion is most famous for the site of the ancient ruins of the Greek Temple of Poseidon.  Surrounded by the sea on three sides, the ruins are inscribed with the name of Lord Byron.  There will be free time for swimming at Sounion’s sandy beach and dinner at one of the cafes. Return to the hotel via coach for the remainder of the evening.
  • Overnight Athens.

Day 5: Athens

  • Experiential learning day in the city and classroom.
  • Overnight Athens.

Day 6: Delphi

  • After breakfast at the hotel, have a morning class before lunch and then board the coach for the scenic drive north to Delphi. During the Hellenistic period, Delphi was considered to be a sacred valley, the mythical point where the earth touched the divine. Located on the south-western side of Mt. Parnassus, in Greek mythology Delphi was home to the Pythian Oracle and was the centre of the known world, but today it’s an impressive archeological excavation and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Upon arrival, check into the hotel before a walking tour of the modern city.  Evening free.
  • Overnight Delphi.

Day 7: Delphi

  • After breakfast at the hotel, explore the ancient ruins along the famous “Path of the Gods”.  There will be ample time to hike the scenic pathways and see the Temple of Apollo, the stadium and the terraces of Mt. Parnassus. Inside the museum, see the spectacular finds like the unique bronze charioteer and Naxian Sphinx.  This afternoon there will be in-class instruction and free time.  Dinner this evening at the hotel.
  • Overnight Delphi.

Day 8: Overnight Travel

  • Breakfast at the hotel and check out. Board the coach for the drive through the mountains to Pireaus (the port of Athens), stopping enroute at Hosios Loukas Monastery. The 10th century Byzantine monastery was a place of pilgrimage during the Middle Ages and is UNESCO World Heritage Site. Admire the incredible mosaics and the unique architecture dating back more than 1000 years. There will be free time for lunch. Reach Pireaus in time to board the overnight ferry to Crete. Dinner will be onboard!
  • Accommodation onboard the overnight ferry to the Crete.

Day 9: Heraklion

  • Wake up to the sun on the water and the amazing views across the Aegean Sea as you travel to Crete, the largest and most southerly of the Greek Islands. Breakfast will be onboard. After arrival, board the motorcoach and transfer directly to the ancient site of Knossos for a guided tour.  Knossos was the capital of the Minoan Civilization and the location that inspired the myth of the Minotaur.  After 3:00, check into the hotel, freshen up, have a dip in the pool and relax before dinner.  This evening there will be classroom instruction.
  • Overnight Heraklion.

Day 10: Heraklion

  • After breakfast at the hotel there will be class and time to work on assignments.  In the afternoon walk down to the port, visit local stores and enjoy the summer atmosphere along the harbour front.  Dinner this evening will be at the hotel.
  • Overnight Heraklion.

Day 11: Heraklion

  • After breakfast at the hotel there will be in-class instruction.  Later in the afternoon board the coach to a private beach club on one of Crete’s most beautiful beaches.  Dinner will be at the beach club once the sun goes down!  Return to Heraklion by coach after dinner.
  • Overnight Heraklion.

Day 12: Heraklion

  • After breakfast, there will be in class instruction.  This afternoon, board the coach and travel west to Elounda and board the short boat ride across the bay to visit Spinalonga Island. A strategically important defence point, Spinalonga protects Elounda Bay and was once the main fortification for the ancient city of Olous.  During 15th century Venetian rule, the island’s impressive walls and citadel were built, but ultimately were conquered by the Ottomans before being abandoned in the mid-20th century.  The island’s eery stillness and beauty belies its tumultuous history, but provides a lovely destination for a day out on the water. Enjoy an early dinner at one of the waterside Greek Tavernas in Elounda Plaka before transferring to Agios Nikolaos to wander through the fun waterside resort town with plenty of shops that comes alive in the evening. Return by coach to Heraklion.
  • Overnight Heraklion.

Day 13: Heraklion

  • Breakfast at the hotel, with class time and instruction in the morning.  Remainder of the day is free to work on assignments, in groups or swim in the pool. Evening free.
  • Overnight Heraklion.

Day 14: Heraklion

  • Breakfast at the hotel, with class time and instruction in the morning. Remainder of the day is free before dinner at the hotel.
  • Overnight Heraklion.

Day 15: Heraklion

  • After class this morning, board the coach and visit one of the most famous white villages in Crete: Rethymno. The town has an old aristocratic appearance including a Venetian era citadel and is located right on the side of the sea.  Take your bathing suits and a towel because the beaches are beautiful! Dinner in Rethymno before boarding the coach and returning to Heraklion
  • Overnight Heraklion.

Day 16: Santorini

  • After breakfast, check out of the hotel and take a high speed ferry (approx 4 hours) to Santorini.  Board the private coach and transfer to the hotel on the caldera overlooking one of the world’s most famous views.  Before dinner at the hotel, enjoy an orientation walking tour of bustling Thira.

Day 17: Santorini

  • Class instruction after breakfast.  Break in the afternoon with free time by the pool or exploring Santorini in small groups. Dinner at the hotel.
  •  Overnight Santorini.

Day 18: Santorini

  • After class, today’s excursion will be to Oia, the most famous village in Santorini.  Ola’s white buildings cascade down the cliffside and have become internationally famous for the spectacular sunsets.  After watching the sun go down, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant in Oia.
  • Overnight Santorini.

Day 19: Paros

  • After breakfast take the ferry from Santorini to the Island of Paros (approx 2 hrs).  Paros is known as one the most charming and authentic islands in the Greek archipelago.  With crystal blue water, white powder sand, and historic houses ringing quaint ports, Paros has an amazing vibe.  Paros port is in the town of Paros, only 10 minute walk to the hotel and after checking in, relax and refresh by the hotel pool before exploring in small groups. Dinner at the hotel.
  • Overnight Paros

Day 20: Paros

  • Class time this morning after breakfast.  Afternoon free to work on assignments, study and swim in the pool. Evening free.
  • Overnight Paros.

Day 21: Paros

  • After classes, guided walking tour around Paros town to one of the beaches.  Dinner at the hotel.
  • Overnight Paros.

Day 22: Paros

  • Last day of classes and final prep for exams.  Dinner at hotel.
  • Overnight Paros.

Day 23: Athens

  • After breakfast, check-out of the hotel and walk the short distance to the ferry.  Board the ferry for Athens and spend time onboard studying.  After arriving to Pireaus, board the coach and transfer to central Athens. After checking into the hotel, write the final exam.  Farewell celebratory dinner this evening in the Plaka.
  • Overnight Athens.

Day 24: End of Itinerary

  • After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the return flight to Toronto via Montreal and congratulate yourself on successfully completing a Grade 12 credit and living your best life this summer in the Greek Islands!

  • Non-refundable deposit:  $1,500.00 + optional Insurance $350.00  due at the time of deposit.
  • Final payment: remaining balance due on April 1, 2023 .
