Arrive in Tokyo

Tokyo

An English-speaking assistant meets you on arrival and transfers you by private vehicle to your hotel. Day one is at leisure to recover from the journey.

Days two through six explore the best of the city. A half-day private tour covers Asakusa, Sensoji Temple, Nakamise shopping street, and Hamarikyu Garden, with a stop for matcha and Japanese sweets in a lakeside tea house. Later in the trip, enjoy a Taiko drum lesson, Shibuya’s famous scramble crossing, and a private street food tour through Meguro. A Sumo wrestling demonstration at a professional stable includes a lunch of chankonabe. An afternoon at SEGA Joypolis offers VR, roller coasters, and arcade games. The final Tokyo day takes in TeamLab Planets, a wander through the geisha neighbourhood of Kagurazaka, and a Geisha kaiseki dinner with classical performances and traditional party games.

Hakone

Your luggage is forwarded directly to Kyoto before departure. Pack a small bag for two nights in Hakone.

A private guide and driver take you into the countryside to the Mishima SkyWalk, Japan’s longest suspension bridge, with views of Mt. Fuji and Suruga Bay. The following day is spent hiking with an English-speaking guide through cedar forests, volcanic valleys, and shrines, with use of the Hakone Ropeway for sweeping views of the region. Evenings are at the hotel, with a traditional onsen experience in your private open-air bath.

Kyoto

Private transfers on both ends of the Shinkansen Green Class from Odawara to Kyoto. The first afternoon is at leisure.

Over five days, a private guide takes you through Kinkakuji Temple (the gold-leaf Golden Pavilion), Nijo Castle (UNESCO, with its famous nightingale floors), and Nishiki Market. A day trip to Nara visits the deer-filled park, Todaiji Temple (the world’s largest wooden building), and Fushimi Inari Shrine, where thousands of vermillion torii gates line a mountain trail. The Samurai and Ninja Museum includes hands-on katana training, followed by a Japanese cooking class in the evening. The final Kyoto day explores Arashiyama: the bamboo grove, a Hozugawa River boat ride, and a hike up Monkey Mountain.

Osaka

A private transfer from Kyoto to Osaka, followed by a half-day guided tour of Osaka Castle and the neon-lit streets of Dotonbori. The remaining days are free to explore at your own pace. Optional: Universal Studios Japan with Super Nintendo World, or a day trip to Hiroshima to visit the Peace Memorial Park and Museum.

Shinkansen Green Class return to Tokyo with a private transfer to your hotel. Final evening at leisure before your departure flight the following morning.
