Olympia

Located on the breathtaking Peloponnese peninsula, the city of Olympia is a historian’s paradise. The most sacred of sites to the ancient Greeks, Olympia rose out of the natural valley created by the confluence of the Alpheios and Kladeos rivers, known as the “Valley of the Gods.” The extensive ruins hold a network of significant archaeological sites dating back to the 8th century B.C. Monuments such as the Temples of Zeus, Zanes And Krypte Stoa, the Stadium of the Ancient Olympic Games and The Temple of Hera invite visitors to learn more about the remarkable history of the ancients. The birthplace of the world’s most famous sporting event, Olympia hosted the Olympic Games every four years beginning in 776 BC. The Archaeological Museum of Olympia, the Archimedes Museum, and the Museum of the Olympic Games are just some of the monuments that pay tribute to the world’s greatest sporting event. For epicures, Olympia is also known for its high quality honey and olive oil. Indulge in a tasting, or let the surroundings inspire you to join an art workshop.
