Best Time to Visit

Sabi Sands is considered a year-round destination because of the superb dependability of game viewing. There are, however, two distinct seasons and the best time to visit Sabi Sand may depend on your expectations and interests.

The winter season runs from May to October and is considered the best time for game viewing as the vegetation thins out, with bird watching being particularly good at this time. It’s the coolest and driest period – especially May through July – the most comfortable time to go on safari, with cool mornings and mild, sunny days. The late winter months of September and October are often very warm with scattered rainfall.

The summer season begins with the onset of heavier rain in November. Thick rivers now flow through a lush and flowering landscape full of birds and new-born animals. Antelope herds with young become targets for big cats and wild dogs, making the summer green season a great time of year to witness predator/prey interaction.

Itinerary

Arrive in Cape Town

Cape Town

Your journey begins in the naturally stunning Cape Town. A city with an incredible mix of stylish locations, a thriving culinary and arts scene, lots of outdoor activities, and a rich cultural heritage nestled between dramatic Table Mountain and the famous V&A Waterfront and marina precinct. Nearby, the scenic Cape Peninsula has pristine beaches, colourful harbour hamlets, valleys of vineyards, and the famous Cape Penguins!

Your travel designer can tailor your perfect stay with as much or as little as you like: sight-seeing, shopping, art galleries, craft markets, private cooking, and street art tours. You may cycle along the promenade and toast the sunset from one of the best beachside cafes in Camps Bay.

Cape Town’s numerous trendy restaurants offer excellent food and great value! At the end of the day, relax at the luxurious One & Only Cape Town, where you can draw back the blinds in one of the city’s largest rooms to reveal a sprawling private terrace with majestic views over Table Mountain or the glittering marina. Soak up the buzz of the city at Vista, where live music fills the air and vibrant dishes showcase the flavours of the region. Enjoy glamorous al-fresco dining along the water’s edge at world-renowned Nobu – the global name’s only outpost in Southern Africa.

Franschhoek – Rural charm and culinary delights

Private transfer takes you to the Winelands, home to world class wines and endless possible activities. The towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek are world renowned for their excellent wines and charming architecture. Franschhoek was founded by the French Huguenots over 350 years ago and boasts pretty cafes and quaint shops. Visit impressive wine estates with historic manor houses and shady picnic lawns. Enjoy fresh local cuisine at al fresco restaurants with incredible vineyard and mountain views. Enjoy private cellar tours and have the day tailored to your wine preferences by your private guide.

If it strikes your fancy, you can E-bike, Segway, or horse ride through the vineyards, perhaps even fly into select wine estates by helicopter! Art galleries, unique boutiques, or a round of golf? All of this and more is possible in the Winelands, let us take care of every detail for your perfect stay.

At the end of the day, relax in your gorgeous room at the Leeu Estates, one of our favorites, and perhaps reserve a table at the award-winning La Petite Colombe restaurant, a top restaurant in all of Africa!

Safari in the Sabi Sands Conservancy

The Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve is, for many, as good as it gets in South Africa. Your open 4×4 safari vehicles, under the eyes of expert rangers, ensure you’ll get up close to iconic animals such as elephants, lions, buffalos, giraffes, zebras, and leopards. Exceptional wildlife sightings and photo opportunities are around every corner in this reserve known for its biodiversity.

When not out on game drives, relax in your very own outdoor lounge or private plunge pool at our highly-recommended Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge. It is a masterpiece of futuristic architecture and dramatic minimalism which blends flawlessly into surrounding nature. Perhaps enjoy a spa treatment while watching the animals wander past. Every day, you can toast the setting sun on your evening game drive, then indulge in fabulous bush cuisine around the boma fire under the African stars. You’ll never want to leave!
