Bajas del Toro
Wake up in your secluded and tranquil hotel, the El Silencio Lodge & Spa. Floating like a cloud in the rainforest canopy, this eco-lodge was created to be a sustainable yet luxurious retreat. One hike we highly recommend is the challenging but well-worth-it trail to reach a pair of Costa Rica’s most stunning waterfalls, Las Gemelas. You’ll also have the opportunity to explore local family homesteads to view private orchid gardens and learn to make fresh tortillas.

Arenal
Next, it’s on to Arenal Volcano National Park. Here, you’ll stay at the beautiful Springs Resort and Spa, with a spectacular view of the Arenal Volcano, natural hot springs, five unique dining experiences, and an impressive full-service spa. Walk the Arenal Hanging Bridges and marvel at the biodiversity. Enjoy a tropical fruit snack before you journey to La Fortuna Waterfall, where you can swim surrounded by lush rainforest until you’re ready to relax with homemade local coffee.
Costa Rica offers its riches not only by land but also by river, and we highly recommend a jungle cruise down the Penas Blancas River. Guides will give descriptions of the abundant plant and animal species en route while keeping an eye open for monkeys, toucans, basilisks (often called Jesus Christ lizards for their ability to run on water), caimans, iguanas, and a wide assortment of birds. Once off the river, you will head to the Vida Campesina sustainable agricultural project to sample fresh organic produce and learn about ancestral farming techniques honed in harmony with nature.

Upon departing the reserve, hike up to the majestic Montezuma Waterfalls and visit the nearby colorful Montezuma village for a fresh local lunch.
