Best Time to Visit

Patagonia’s beauty comes with changeable weather, like Alaska. The sweet spot is October to mid-April, with daytime highs ranging from the 40s to mid-60s F/ 5-21 C. Be prepared for sunshine, rain, and wind – pack layers! Nights dip into the 30sF/0C, so pack long underwear for hikes. Avoid the strong summer winds (December-February) if you prioritize peaceful exploration.

GHardy recommends experiencing Patagonia without the crowds: Winter’s a hidden gem! Think snow-dusted peaks, colossal glaciers, and vibrant blue lakes under clear, sunny skies. Score off-season deals, embark on snowy hikes, and soak up the tranquility of Patagonia’s winter wonderland.

Itinerary

Arrive in Santiago de Chile

Santiago de Chile and Casablanca Valley

Welcome to Santiago de Chile!

Upon arrival at Santiago International Airport, our guide will welcome you for a transfer to the boutique Singular Hotel, which preserves a historic National Heritage building. Freshen up in your sophisticated room while the concierge makes arrangements for your first dinner in the beautiful City of the Island Hills.

In the afternoon, enjoy a fun, personalized half-day tour that will acquaint you with the hidden gems of this city, focused on art, history, shopping or architecture.

The following day, we whisk you away to the gorgeous Casablanca wine valley, nestled in between the Pacific Ocean and Santiago. Visit award-winning wineries known for stunning white varietals, cool climate reds, and organic and bio-dynamic innovation before retiring to one of their tasting rooms to enjoy a guided wine tasting.

After visiting some truly special wineries, relax in the acclaimed restaurant Tanino, where you’ll enjoy a sumptuous three-course menu specially paired with two wines from their celebrated selection curated by Alberto Guolo. Continue onwards to a family-run and unique “bodega”. After a decadent day of Chilean food and wines, return to Santiago for an overnight stay and prepare to embark on your Ultimate Patagonian adventure!

SUGGESTED ACCOMMODATION : The Singular Santiago Hotel

Chilean Patagonia

Fly to Puerto Natales, your base for the next three days. Upon arrival, you will recharge in your carefully selected hotel in preparation for the following day’s spectacular trek to the untamed and indescribable Torres del Paine National Park. The park features towering granite peaks, pristine glaciers, dazzling lakes, and expansive valleys. The iconic centerpiece of the park is the trio of granite spires known as the Torres del Paine, rising dramatically into the sky. Depending on your interest and fitness level, we can arrange a hike through forests, rivers, and rocks to reach one of the most rewarding views of the spires. Although challenging, we promise that every step will be well worth the ultimate view!

The next day can only be described as Patagonia’s version of a safari. Sail through the Señoret channel towards Guanaco Island, where the small and wonderful Commerson’s dolphins (toninas) make cameo appearances, vivacious cormorant colonies gather, and thousands of sea lions reside. Further along the channel, with some luck, you will also spot the indomitable Andean condor. The boat trip continues to Mount Balmaceda (altitude of 2035m) where you can appreciate the glacier of the same name. Disembark at nearby Puerto Toro to begin a one-hour hike around the shore of the Tempanos lagoon. After marvelling at this unique, wild, and untouched landscape, visit a far flung ranch for a traditional regional lunch before returning to Puerto Natales.

In the morning, embark on a 20-minute boat ride across Lake Rico, arriving at the impressive southern face of the world-famous Perito Moreno Glacier. Once disembarked, follow your knowledgeable mountain guides on an unforgettable 1.5 hour hike to crevices, moulins, and lagoons. After making contact with the glacier, you will return to solid ground and enjoy panoramic views of this remarkable mass of ice from sturdy footbridges.

El Chalten

Depart El Calafate and transfer to El Chalten, a charming village embraced by the stunning landscapes of Los Glaciares National Park, also known as Argentina’s “Trekking Capital”. You will soon see how El Chalten earned this moniker, as you embark on a spectacular and unforgettable trek to the mystical Mount Fitz Roy and the Laguna de los Tres. Although this hike is challenging, the rewards it offers are bountiful. You will start with a walk through dense Native Patagonian Lenga forests, which provide refuge for countless varieties of native birds. Continue on for multiple viewings of glaciers and peaks in all their splendor, including Saint Exupery, Mermoz, Guillaumet, and Fitz Roy. After a 1300-foot ascent, reach the Laguna de los Tres, which will leave you short of superlatives. This is Patagonia in full glory.
